Rock out on an intergalactic chase through the cosmos to help the Guardians of the Galaxy protect Earth and the nature of space and time.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind revolutionizes roller coaster design with a thrilling and immersive experience that is possible with the use of technology developed by applying science and physics principles.

One of the technological advances that makes this coaster remarkable is its design as an OmniCoaster attraction.

What is it?

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind makes use of OmniCoaster technology to move your ride vehicle 360 degrees in your seat, turning you towards the action as you travel along the track.

How do we use it?

Walt Disney Imagineers combined the technology of the OmniMover system used at rides like the Haunted Mansion and put it on top of a roller coaster.

This technology makes use of Yaw Rotation, meaning that your vehicle rotates you about the vertical axis.

To use this technology, Imagineers needed to make sure that the Yaw Rotation could happen throughout the attraction in any orientation, configuration, banks, twists and turns of the coaster. To do so, they used a computer to analyze the energy and clearance needed to create the rotation that will bring thrills that mimic the feeling of flying through space.

Where do we use it?

This Yaw Rotation is strategically used to rotate and point Guests at the show elements and screens. The coaster even features a backwards launch to bring a whole new level of thrill and fun to the coaster attraction.

The development of this technology allowed Imagineers to create an even more immersive attraction experience where riders truly feel like they are called into action to help the Guardians of the Galaxy on their important mission. Come visit EPCOT and ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to discover how important science principles are when applied to the development of this OmniCoaster attraction.
