From the football field to Main Street U.S.A., join Disney Imagination Campus in celebrating the Marching Arts in honor of Marching Band Day on March 4th.
Drummer Landon from the Main Street Philharmonic, the Marching Band that performs in Magic Kingdom Park, has been performing with this band for the past five years.
Landon jokingly credits his musician father for influencing him in his performing arts career after he spotted Landon hitting things around the house growing up. As a result, Landon’s dad bought him his first drum set and taught him his first groove at the age of 5.
In his freshman year of high school, Landon’s school took a trip to Disney where he got to take and apply the skills he had learned over the years to a performance he would never forget as he marched with his band down Main Street U.S.A. and the Parade Route in Magic Kingdom Park.
Landon shared: “I’ll never forget all the Guests who were applauding and smiling at us. It was just a really rewarding experience. Marching down Main Street U.S.A. opened up a whole new world for me that has taken me all across the world as far as being more rudimental, the discipline that it brings and being able to work as a team.”
Landon’s experiences in his high school marching band truly did help him to develop his performing arts path and set the stage for his career. Not only does Landon perform in the Main Street Philharmonic, he also recorded the drums for Disney Enchantment, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks and the Wonderful World of Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
“My biggest influential teacher was my drum set professor in college,” Landon claims. “He continues to be one of my biggest mentors and friends. He is not only one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and one of the greatest drummers, but he also took the time to dive more into what I wanted for my career path as a performer. Finding someone like that was a blessing for me because he really inspired me to be better and to be different in how I approach music.”
“Performing in the Main Street Philharmonic is a dream come true. What I find most joyful is the level of musicality shared from player to player.”
“If I could provide some advice to inspire students, I would say to keep these four things in mind: always have a great attitude, never be late, always come prepared, and always be open to criticism. These things will set you apart from everyone else.”
Next time you visit Magic Kingdom Park, check out Landon and the other members of the Main Street Philharmonic as they share songs from classic Disney films as well as ragtime and swing standards!
